Common questions

Everything you need to know about getting started with ClaryBook.

Do I need to install an app?
ClaryBook is best on the iPhone app β€” that's where the camera, Face ID, and push notifications live. If you'd rather not install anything, you can use ClaryBook in any browser at app.clarybook.com, or text Clary on Telegram. All three stay in sync.
How does ClaryBook help me find deductions?
Every expense you text or snap gets categorized as a business expense automatically β€” software, home office, equipment, travel, contractor payments, and more. Log mileage in a single text and ClaryBook calculates the deduction at the current IRS rate. At tax time it all rolls up into a clean expense summary, categorized and ready for your accountant.
Can it help with my quarterly taxes?
ClaryBook keeps your income and expenses current all year, so you always know what you've actually made β€” no scrambling in April or before an estimated-payment deadline. Ask "how much did I make this quarter?" in chat and get the number instantly. ClaryBook doesn't file or calculate your estimated tax payment for you, but it gives you (and your accountant) the up-to-date profit figure those payments are based on.
How do I keep business and personal separate?
Log only your business income and expenses in ClaryBook, and it keeps them cleanly separated from your personal spending. Owner draws and contributions β€” money you move between yourself and the business β€” are tracked apart from business income, so your profit number stays accurate and your books stay clean for your accountant.
Can my accountant access my books?
Two ways. (1) Export PDF reports (income statement, expense summary, mileage log) or CSV data and email them directly to your accountant. (2) Invite your accountant as a team member with read-only `viewer` access β€” they get the full dashboard, every export, every receipt, and the audit trail. You stay the owner and can remove them any time.
How does receipt scanning work?
Snap a photo or share a PDF from your email β€” works in the iPhone app, Telegram bot, or the web portal. AI extracts the vendor, amount, date, and category automatically. If you have active clients or projects, Clary asks which one it belongs to. You can correct anything with a quick reply. The original image or PDF is stored permanently as documentation.
